Are you passionate about engaging with climate action alongside youth activists and policymakers? Are you keen to learn more about how international negotiations work? Are you determined to ensure that young people are included in the process of climate policy- and decision-making?

The Future Leaders Network is seeking passionate young people to represent us as part of our second ever delegation to the UNFCCC Conference of Parties (COP).

what is cop27?

COP27 refers to the 2022 United Nations Climate Change Conference which will be held in Sharm el-Sheikh, Egypt. These annual conferences serve as the formal meeting of the parties of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) to assess progress in dealing with climate change.

Last year, COP26 was held in Glasgow. It was the first conference since the Paris Agreement of COP21 which expected parties to make enhanced commitments towards mitigating climate change. The resulting Glasgow Climate Pact was the first to deal explicitly with reducing the use of coal and promised more climate finance for adaptation in developing countries.

The Pact has been criticised by some actors for not going far enough, particularly in the language of ‘phase down’ rather than ‘phase out’ coal. Egypt’s vision for COP27 recognises that a ‘just transition’ remains a priority for developing countries worldwide.
