Role description - COP27 Research Delegate

6 - 18 NOVEMBER 2022, SHARM EL-SHEIKH, EGYPT

What we are looking for…

All delegates will be responsible for developing our policy position, advancing it to policymakers and communicating it to the young people we are representing.

In addition, COP27 Research Delegates will be…

  • Responsible for pioneering the policy position followed by the whole delegation;

  • Expected to research previous conferences (including furthering the work of the recent Y7 and Y20 communiques) and the UK’s position on climate issues to develop clear, well-evidenced policy recommendations;

  • Experience in writing policies would be desirable, but is not essential.

You will be assisted and guided at every step of the way by the Future Leaders Network team, specifically our two COP 27 Head Delegates who will work with you throughout and after the COP27 Summit in November.

Eligibility criteria

  • You must be aged 18 - 30 (as of 10 October 2022);

  • You must have been a permanent resident in the United Kingdom for at least 5 years OR a British citizen with a valid U.K. passport

Time commitment

At least 5 hours a week in the build-up to COP27, plus attendance** at the Conference in Sharm el-Sheikh, Egypt. Successful candidates must be able to commit to:

  • Regular meetings with other delegates from September 2022 - January 2023

  • Attendance at COP27** in Sharm El-Sheikh for either week 1 (6th-12th November) or week 2 (12th-18th November) 

  • Covering the costs of your travel, accommodation and subsistence for the duration of your stay


**We will consider applications for remote positions if you are not able to travel to Sharm El-Sheikh for COP27. Please indicate this in your application.

Remuneration

Voluntary. All costs associated with the Conference (including travel, accommodation and food) will need to be covered by the Delegate.

Assessment criteria

Candidates will be assessed based on the following criteria:

  • Passion for youth leadership and youth participation in democratic processes

  • Interest in the progress of climate-related issues and corresponding climate action, particularly through the lens of youth engagement;

  • Ability to take initiative and deliver real-world change, whether at a local, community, national or international level;

  • Interpersonal skills, including being able to listen effectively, work with people from a wide range of backgrounds, and build trust and rapport effectively;

  • Ability to work in a diverse team to achieve collective goals; 

  • Skills and experience relevant to the specific role you are applying for

To apply to be a FLN delegate to COP27, please complete the following application form by 14th August.

Applications will be considered on a rolling basis, with some candidates invited to interview in w/c 22nd August. All candidates will be informed of the outcome of their application in w/c 29th August.
