Empowerment: How to get the best out of the people around you

The past few years have highlighted deep, longstanding divides in our society and communities. But we have also been reminded of the strength found in community and organisation, in pursuit of a common wider goal.

A leader is nothing without the network around them. To truly change the world we need a generation of young people that can organise successfully, and collectively uplift each other by utillising each other’s strengths and overcoming each other’s weaknesses.

So how can we achieve this? How can we begin to build our capacity for empathy, empower others and get the best out of our friends, colleagues and the people around us?

Well, in the summer of 2023 we'll be going on a journey to find out, at our FLN 2023 Summer Retreat!

We are a non-profit organisation aimed at discovering and developing the next generation of leaders in the U.K. We’re passionate about equipping young people with the experiences, skills, and networks they need to become effective, ethical leaders who affect positive change in the world… and we’re back with our 2023 Summer Retreat offering you a weekend retreat where you can build your skills as a leader, broaden your professional network and engage in fun activities!

For only £125*, you will:

1. Develop your leadership skills by exploring your own sphere of influence, your capacity for empathy for others, and how to build up your team. You can expect:

  • To be challenged and inspired as a leader, learning new methods and ways of working and thinking to get the best out of yourself and those around you.

  • To learn through doing - we will take part in group activities let by Tolmers Activity Centre to help bring these lessons to life!

  • To leave with learnings and skills you can apply directly to your own life and career!

2. Network with other fantastic young leaders and changemakers from across the country - FLN is a community of over 3,000 young people from across all four nations of the UK and the globe. You’ll get the opportunity to network with many awesome young people and leaders and create lasting connections.

3. Learn more about yourself in a fun, friendly and supportive environment through participating in unique activities, having opportunities to disconnect from the online world and experiencing a bit of adventure.

Spaces are limited and allocated on a first-come first served basis.

Included in the price of a ticket:

  • Exclusive access to at least five NEW interactive sessions, covering both theoretical and practical lessons to understand your own sphere of influence, how to identify and optimise the best traits of those around you, and how to organise to bring people together;

  • A friendly and welcoming environment to enable you to explore how you will put your learnings into practice;

  • Two adventurous group activities over the weekend;

  • An evening campfire;

  • 2 nights accommodation in a lodge or tent*;

  • All food for the weekend - from Friday dinner to Sunday lunch. In the spirit of sustainability, all meals will be vegetarian; and

  • All materials needed for the day.
